The Muppet Movie & Me
“Peoples is Peoples and Potatoes is Potatoes”
What does this famous saying have to do with me? I am in France, traveled from the United States. I have heard — from assorted people over the years — that the French are rude.
I have spent a week in Paris. J’aime à parle français. [I love to speak French] As soon as I said I’m learning French [in French, naturally] I am assisted; so although my French isn’t that good, it is getting better. Partially because people have corrected my vocabulary, grammar, etc. but in HELPFUL and FRIENDLY ways. Imagine that!
After a magnificent week in Paris, my husband and I drove to Bondues to see the World War I stuff at Vimy and Ypres. Fabulous service. Edouard at the hotel was so kind and magnanimous as to allow us to use the hotel’s laundry facilities. Imagine that!
From Bondues, we drove to the next World War; I mean Ypres and Vimy.
Got lost. Got lost. Got lost again. Asked for directions and voilà. My husband wanted to see the reconstructed trenches and Memorial. Lost. Got lost. Got lost again. Asked for directions, and a man offered to have us follow him. We did. Amazing? Imagine that!
On to Normandy.
Now for something totally miraculous. Of course we got lost again. Several times. Twice today, someone offered (and of course we accepted) to follow these people to our destinations.
Now, would you do that for stranger? A foreigner in your country? Could you be that kind and caring?
Pay It Forward.
I know now I will try to be.
